Aug 10 - Day at sea/ Prince Christian Sound
With clear
blue skies we traveled along the 70-mile-long Prince Christian Sound which connects the Labrador and Irminger Seas.
The force of Greenland's massive inland ice cap pushes glaciers towards the
sea, where large chunks of ice break off and become floating icebergs.
After breakfast we had signed up for a visit of the Bridge. The Captain spoke for a long time and we were free to walk around and check everything out. He took questions and loved to tell stories.
After that we went to the lecture on Photography by Hermann. He wasn’t on our Iceland cruise and he was into all thing's photography including his Drone and GoPro. We saw him in Tassilaq laying down in front of the sled dogs trying to get the perfect shot.
That
was followed by a lecture on Prince William Sound and a port talk on Qaqortoq.
(pronounced something like “ha ha tak”) We jokingly were calling it warthog.
Lunch
was followed by a lecture on the Settlement by Jens and free time before a
lecture on Glaciers by Dieter.
We had the usual Tea Time & Cocktail hour followed by dinner.
Our
scenic passage of Prince Christian Sound was supposed to be between 5:30 and 11:30. Due to clear skies and great weather we were hours early, so we were through the Sound by dinner time. Everyone
spent as much time as possible out on deck. The granite fjords and the glaciers
and waterfalls were stunning.
There were
also Late-Night Soups, but we didn’t go for that. (instead of their usual late-night snacks served inside the bar area.
Again, we said "they really went above and beyond".

Tomorrow, we visit Qaqortoq.
The icebergs and glaciers are impressive.
