This trip was a combination land trip and Mekong Delta River Cruise. We were thrilled to share the adventure with good friends Cathy & Tom. We started in Hanoi, Vietnam for a couple of nights and on to Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) were the river cruise started and ended in Siem Reap, Cambodia where we spent 5 days. Next, we flew to Luang Prabang, Laos for a couple of nights and then in search of Orangutans in Malaysian Borneo (Sandakan) and Sumatra & Java (Medan & Yogyakarta) before ending the trip in Bali for 8 days. I hoped I had struck a balance of nature & culture, but I hope we may get “Templed out” by the end of Bali. We’ll have a mix of nice hotels, River Cruise & Nature Lodges. (and lots of plane trips)
We have used China Highlights China Highlights: Private Tailor-Made
China Tours for over-land trips on several of our world cruises. They
branched out and have a division called Asia Highlights so having had good
experiences with them in the past I contacted them to do this trip. Personalized and Stress-free
Experiences in Asia | Asia Highlights What I like about them is the tours
are private and customizable. They also have some set tours if you aren’t into
being hands on with the planning. I had a list of things I wanted to see and do,
and Jason put together a plan. We reworked it several times as I wanted to add
or delete things. They have also expanded to setting up tours all over the
world. We normally prefer the ease of cruising, but knowing there are many
places not accessible by ships, we have planned several land trips to see some
new countries or get a more in-depth experience.
I am not traveling with a computer so the blog will be
posted after we return. We are now back a couple of days and getting caught up. I will slowly get the blog posts done, but going through all the photos will take some time.
