Travel Days - February 11 – 13
Just a reminder that I am not a travel blogger, and this is
more of a personal diary for friends and family.
Noordam is a mid-sized ship holding 1,924 passengers. It’s
only our third cruise with HAL. I was looking for a cruise that included the
Philippines as it will be a new country for us. This one was appealing due to
so many ports in Japan. (we’ve previously visited Hiroshima and Kyoto)
We left on the 11th and arrived in Hong Kong on the 13th. We have been to Hong Kong several times and this time we decided to venture out to Lantau Island for one of our days. We’ll take the HOHO and/or local transportation to knock around on the other. Our first day will be checking out a Wetland Park and Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden.
The flight from MCO to LAX was 5.5 hours. We grabbed lunch
to take on the plane since even in Economy Plus they did not serve or sell food
nor were there screens to watch a movie or TV show. (of course you can use your
own devices)
After a couple of hours of layover, we boarded the night flight to Hong Kong which was just short of 16 hours. We were served Prosecco before takeoff, so we had a toast to our adventure. They served 2 meals; dinner when we boarded at 11:00 at night and breakfast before we landed. Cup of Noodles and other snacks were available on request. We read, watched a couple of movies and played games. We both managed to sleep and get in a catnap or two. The seats reclined, but not quite flat. My leg rest did not work, and Greg's was stuck not quite all the way down. Ah well.....
Next post will be our first day in Hong Kong.
