Mohács & Pecs, Hungary

July 27

Mohács was the site of one of the bloodiest battles in Hungarian history following the Ottoman invasion of 1526. More than 17,000 Hungarian soldiers, including several notable leaders, lost their lives. The site’s mass grave was discovered during the 1970s and remains a poignant memorial to this day.

Our tour today started with a drive by bus to Pecs and then a walking tour of the town.

Our first stop was at Basilica of St. Peter & St. Paul aka Pécs Cathedral.

Pecs Cathedral

statue of Franz Liszt on a balcony - built onto the Archbishop's Palace to hold the statue since he had no more room in the palace for statues

For the burial site we were split into several groups (same as our tour group) and I imagine we all were taken to different areas to keep us apart. So, we only saw a small sampling of the complex.
