April 5 - PM
We arrived at Abai Jungle Lodge and had some lunch before
checking in at 2:00. We were shown to our cabin and had time for a short walk on
their boardwalk.

Snacks were served before the 4:30 Kinabatangan River
cruise for 3+ hours. We saw tons of proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaques,
pigtailed macaques, and many birds. With the fading light and most critters up amongst
the trees, we saw a lot, but got few decent photos. Our guide Erik was awesome.
where the boats were stored - same kind we toured in
Long-tailed Macaques
swiftlet nesting house - the only downside of the lodge was the constant recorded bird sounds played on the loudspeaker - only heard at the very front where you board the boats

We stopped at the halfway point end of the lake and had
refreshments and cookies before making our way back to the lodge. We stopped to
see the Christmas tree fireflies. Just magical, but in pitch dark we didn’t
even attempt photos.
After dinner at 7:30 the guide called us over to see a Malayan
civet. You may have heard of coffee made from civet poop this is one of the
kinds of civets. (more on that later in the blog)
We went on an evening nature walk on the boardwalk. We saw a Slow
loris which may act like a sloth, but it’s actually the world's only venomous
primate. We also saw some monkeys, a pit viper and some insects. We also saw another type of Civet cat, but the photos were too dark.

Time for bed since we have an early boat trip on the Kinabatangan
River in the morning.
