My Nature Resort - Borneo - Sandakan, Malaysia

April 4

Si tours S I TOURS – SPECIAL INTEREST TOURS (sitoursborneo.com) picked us up at the airport and brought us to the My Nature Resort for our one night. Sandakan is a city in the Malaysian state of Sabah, on the northeast coast of Borneo. The island is Indonesian except for the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, and the tiny nation of Brunei.

We received a welcome drink and cold towels. After going over our itinerary we were shown to our cabins. It was a beautiful cabin with a lovely patio.

We unpacked what we would need for tomorrow and went for a hike on their boardwalk loop. Only saw a snake and a Pig-tailed Macaque.

we came across a pigtailed macaque on the bridge

Came back and cooled off in the pool before meeting for snacks and cold drinks while we waited for the flying squirrel. It was a beautiful Red Giant Flying Squirrel. She gave us 2 flights and I think I have some video of it. (if so, I will add it to my Google Photo Album)

Oriental Pied-hornbills - one is on top and the another is in the nesting box

Red Giant Flying Squirrel in the nesting box - it was pretty far away and hard to get photos

After watching the squirrel, we went on a night walk with the small group and saw lots of spiders, a pretty caterpillar, a lizard and another snake.

Then it was time for dinner. Very good food and it was time for bed and our early start.

Tomorrow, we visit Sepilok Rehabilitation Center for Orangutans and Sun Bears before going by boat to Abai Jungle Lodge.
